East Midland Trains

The Company Profile

East Midland TrainsEast Midlands Trains (EMT) is a British train operating company owned by Stagecoach Group.

Based in Derby, the company provides train services in the East Midlands, chiefly in Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire.

 The Business Situation

Part of EMT’s strategic plans is to develop Leaders and Managers in the organisation and ensure new up and coming managers are developed into the roles for the future.

We were engaged to design and deliver a range of programme which would develop the skills and behaviours of both current and future leaders of the business.

The client was looking for a bespoke programme which specifically met the needs of the business.

Key areas identified:

  • Making the transition into Leadership and Management
  • Stakeholder management
  • Mentoring for Managers

The Approach

A number of programmes were designed that would fully satisfy the client’s requirements by providing interactive, organisational-focused training based in a classroom with on-going support back in the workplace.

The programmes delivered included:

  • An Introduction into Management programme aligned to Management competences and dovetailed into EMT’s in-house Management Development Programme for those that demonstrate a potential for a leadership and management role.
  • Managing stakeholder expectations is crucial in effectively managing the needs of all interested parties. Through understanding what drives stakeholder behaviour, Managers learnt how to adjust their communication style and influencing approach to make sure project objectives are being met on budget and on time. This course was interactive and practical and enabled delegates to analyse, plan and manage key stakeholders to maximum effect.
  • Partner with EMT to design and deliver an in-house Mentoring programme, the objective of which is to use mentoring as a way of supporting the development of people who are talented and have potential to do more senior or different roles, in the future. This is an on-going programme which is regularly reviewed and mentors supervised

The Benefits

Leaders and managers developing their confidence in their current role as well as future leaders stepping up into a management position. Improved communication with key stakeholders.

Since we partnered together over 1 year ago I have found Fiona to be extremely supportive, highly flexible as we have had to change many interventions at short notice. Fiona you have been an utter professional and embraced our complex organisation and delivered everything we have asked of you at a very high standard.

I would most certainly recommend you to any organisations. Your approach to relationship building comes across as very genuine and you were always truly interested in understanding my business needs and offering solutions which added value to our employees.
