3-Day Workshop


This programme is to provide practising and potential team leaders with an in depth understanding of the skills, qualities and best practices required to become an effective leader.
The programme will also give participants the opportunity to work in small groups to exchange ideas and experiences, and to form a common understanding of the theories, methods and practices used and discussed on the course.

Day One: Role of the Team Leader

  • The skills and qualities of a team leader
  • Understanding, establishing and maintaining authority; Trust and respect
  • Accountability
  • The functions and responsibilities of a team leader
  • Leadership Styles
  • Making the transition from peer to leader
  • Leadership behaviours
  • The difference between management and leadership

Day Two: Managing the Work Team to Perform

  • An introduction to performance management
  • Organisational requirements in relation to individual performance; policies and procedures
  • Performance improvement and development of individuals to meet performance standards
  • Managing behaviour and poor performance
  • Setting SMART objectives and KPIs
  • Performance Management case studies
  • Establish a common understanding of what motivates individuals and the importance of the role of the team leader in this process.

Day Three: Planning the Work of the Team

  • The essential stages of managing the team
  • Setting SMART objectives and performance standards
  • Understanding the organisation and its requirements
  • Understanding and meeting quality standards
  • Prioritising and organising Work
  • Monitoring the resources used by the Team
  • Monitoring the Team’s work
  • Communication and briefing the Team
  • Delegation
  • Time Management – Using your time effectively
